Fear of the dentist is incredibly common. Some people have such intense anxiety that they even develop a phobia with a name – odontophobia.
Even if your anxiety is mild, you could still be avoiding regular check-ups and cleanings, which can, unfortunately, set you up for dental problems down the road.
Do any of these worries sound familiar? Do they cause you to postpone your dental care?
- I feel uncomfortable or scared at the dentist.
- I want to be in full control of what’s happening to me.
- I fear pain.
- I fear needles.
- Traditional anesthesia doesn’t work for me.
- I don’t have time for my treatment plan.
- I can’t physically stay comfortable in a dental chair.
- I’ve had bad experiences at the dentist.
If any of these statements reflects how you feel about dental visits, Dr. Nguyen wants to introduce you to sedation dentistry.
Delicate Dental Arts offers options for sedation, and Dr. Nguyen will be happy to discuss which solution is best for you so you can receive the gentle treatment you need and deserve to stay healthy.
Patients who have mild to moderate mental or physical discomfort, as well as those who need many procedures performed as quickly as possible, can benefit from oral sedation. Simply take a small sedative before your dental visit, and you’ll feel deeply relaxed and worry-free during your appointment.
For extremely fearful or anxious patients, Dr. Nguyen may suggest IV sedation. You will be given an IV through which a liquid sedative is administered. The amount of sedative you receive can be altered to ensure your complete comfort during the entire procedure.
Safe and Effective Treatment Options
Both oral sedation and IV sedation are safe and effective for most healthy individuals. At your consultation with Dr. Nguyen, she will review your medical history as well as any current medications you are taking to make sure that sedation dentistry is right for you. You will be carefully monitored throughout your appointment to make sure that you are comfortable and safe – two of our top priorities!
Sedation dentistry not only relaxes you and helps you feel calm, it can actually make your appointment seem to go by much faster and you may not even remember much of the appointment later. You will remain conscious so that you can communicate with Dr. Nguyen and other team members throughout the procedure.
After Your Sedation Dentistry Appointment
Be sure to schedule a ride home. You will feel groggy following your procedure and shouldn’t drive the day of your visit. By the next morning, however, you’ll be refreshed and ready to face the world with a smile.
We’d love to tell you more about sedation dentistry and how it is changing lives for people who thought they would never be able to get proper dental care. Please call our Encinitas dental office today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Nguyen and learn more!
