FAQ on Dental Care
Can you show me a preview of my new smile before I commit to a treatment plan?
Absolutely.
In fact, modern technology has given us a few options for smile previews.
Cosmetic dentistry is an investment in your image, your self-confidence, and your self-esteem. Before you make a final decision, it’s wise to know exactly what to expect!
Dr. Nguyen can use digital photography and special software to create a preview of your potential smile. A diagnostic wax model can also reveal what your new smile would look like. In some cases, we might place temporary restorations so patients can test drive a complete set of veneers before the final restorations are placed.
These decisions will be made between you and Dr. Nguyen. Your needs and goals matter, and she will always listen carefully to you to ensure that you accomplish the things you want. Your dentist should be your partner in health care, and we’ll always take the time to inform you about your options and what you can expect, so you can make smarter decisions.
My spouse snores and keeps me up at night.
Can a dentist prescribe treatment for their sleep apnea?
Snoring is a sign that your spouse is not breathing correctly, and may increase their risk for serious health problems.
Snoring is often a symptom of sleep apnea. If your spouse has sleep apnea, their breathing stops several times during their sleep cycle. This stops oxygen from reaching the brain.
In mild cases, this may cause daytime drowsiness and irritability. However, severe sleep apnea can cause brain damage and increase your spouse’s risk of heart attacks and strokes.
Delicate Dental Arts offers sleep studies, which will reveal whether your spouse has a snoring or sleep apnea issue.
Treatment generally falls into three categories: medical, dental, and surgical.
Medical treatment involves a bedside air generator, which is connected to a facial mask that delivers a constant flow of air to the lungs. This is known as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP).
For individuals with CPAP intolerance, custom oral appliances have been developed and can be prescribed by Dr. Nguyen. This treatment is known as oral appliance therapy (OAT).
The third option is surgery or a combination of surgeries that may include jaw repositioning or removal of excess throat tissue.
